Scouts can reach for the stars with Sunderland Astronomical Society!
Sunderland Astronomical Society opens its doors to all Scouts and Guides on an appointment basis. They have an observatory, and facilities at Washington Wetlands Centre. 1st Winlaton Cubs have been there for a visit to assist with their astronomer badge. There is a small charge of £2pp. This includes a talk on astronomy, and weather willing, the chance to look through one of several telescopes. If the weather is against you on the night, they will arrange to visit your HQ, where several astronomers, with their equipment, will show your troop the heavens.
They are also holding a free event at Goodshieldshaugh, at Winlaton Mill on the 20th of February, where there will be a variety of astronomers and equipment. Any children must be accompanied by an adult.
If you, or anyone in the Scout association, is interested in visiting our observatory, please contact Peter Stokel CSL 1st Winlaton, or Chairman Graham Darke;
