Over 350 Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders gathered at Moor House Adventure Centre this weekend for an action packed weekend at one of the chilliest Frostie weekends ever!
A number of groups braved the elements and actually camped out on the Friday night in what must be one of the first nights under canvas since the big Christmas chill. The young people all came together for a big campfire in the purpose designed amptheater built by volunteers from the Moor House Service Crew.
Saturday started with an surge in numbers as all of the day visiting groups arrived to participate in a full day of non stop adventurous activities, with almost every challenge Moor House has to offer running. The young people had a huge choice of things to do from classic pursuits such as climbing or archery through to more modern activities like mountain boarding or tomahawk throwing.
15 year old Explorer Scout Jessica Dickinson said, “ It was a marvellous weekend, i had a go at a few of the activities, and enjoyed meeting up with friends i havn't seen in ages. The cold weather was slightly chilly but thats why we love frostie, and frostie wouldn't be frostie without that!”
A volunteer team made up of leaders, Network members and Moor House staff made sure that all of the bases ran non stop from 10am till 4pm, and the hot drinks tent made sure nobody felt the cold too much!
Laura Humphries Assistant Cub Scout Leader from 61st Newcastle said, " our cubs enjoyed frostie day because there was so many activities to try as many times as they liked! The weather didnt dampen their sprits, overall lots of frostie fun with warm friendship.”
However just as soon as it had started, it was all over and 350, very happy, very sleepy young people headed back to their districts with fond memories of a fantastic day out.
