The Geoffrey Gordon Cup is back for 2012! 23rd-25th March - Raven Gill Scout Campsite, Commondale

Take a national park, a load of Explorers and tons of exhilarating activities and you've got yourself the Geoffrey Gordon Cup. We're returning to the North Yorkshire Moors for 2012 and challenging Explorers from around the North East to take part. It's a mix of a massive incident hike and an huge orienteering challenge.

You’ll need to be at your best to complete our exhilarating physical and mental challenges to win the ultimate prize! Here's what you can expect:

  • Friday Night - We asked all our teams to arrive on the Friday night at the start point for a briefing and then planning of their route for the following day.

  • Saturday - Teams start their challenge on the Saturday with a route of around 18km completing all the challenges which face them - in the past we've done everything from canoeing, a 7m spider mountain, high rope challenges to a 16 foot giant see-saw in the trees! There are points available for every activity that you take part in.

  • Saturday Night - The competition stops for a few hours and we relax with Giant DVD's, Music, Food and Inflatables!

  • Sunday - Our event on Sunday takes a different twist and features lots of different activities in the local area. You’ll need to be fast and plan well to pick up all the points!

Expect to have a great time with your team, take part in some new and exciting activities, have a laugh and push yourself to win. Read about what happened last year and see the photos.

who

Teams of between 4 and 6 Explorer Scouts from anywhere in the North East can take part. Teams from outside of Durham Scout County compete together to win the Geoffrey Gordon Invitation Trophy which was exclusively donated to us by Durham Cathedral.

You'll need some basic experience of being outdoors and the team will need hike tents, walking kit and cooking equipment.
