2020 European Jamboree

Following the award of the 2023 World Scout Jamboree to South Korea, the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association decided to hold a European Jamboree, in Gdansk Poland from 27th July to 6th August 2020 - the first European Jamboree for fifteen years (see https://www.ej2020.org/ for more details). Note that the dates of the European Jamboree coincide with our own Durham2020 international camp and that it would not be possible to attend both.

Durham Scouts have appointed a Unit Leadership team of four adults and we will be taking 36 young people of Explorer Scout age (at the time of the Jamboree in 2020) to the European Jamboree.

Note that unlike a World Scout Jamboree we would need to plan and organise the whole trip, including transportation to/from Gdansk and a pre or post Jamboree experience.

Support would be provided to the Unit Leadership Team by experienced leaders in the county as well as the ACC(International). The good news is that this will cost significantly less than a World Scout Jamboree, with our initial budget estimate being in the order of £1,300 to 1,500 including:

  • The Jamboree experience (including food)
  • Flights and other ancilliary transportation and other costs (transfers, food while travelling)
  • A 2 night / 2 day pre or post Jamboree experience in Poland
  • Equipment (uniform, badges, holdall and day sack, hoodies etc)
  • Training and preparation camps

The cost of the Jamboree would be met from fundraising over an 15 to 18 month period, with some financial support from the County International Fund.

YOUTH Places

Due to personal circumstances, a number of the young people originally selected to attend EuroJam 2020 are no longer able to attend. This has opened up limited opportunities for replacement. Note that to attend the European Jamboree you must be a member of Durham Scouts and be aged 14, 15, 16 or 17 at the date the Jamboree starts (27th July 2020) i.e. already a older Scout or younger Explorer Scout.

If you would like to attend the European Jamboree these places will, subject to an interview, be allocated on a first come basis. Fundraising support will be provided and assistance will be provided for those needing to apply for additional funding support.

Please therefore read the information form below, and download and complete the Application form below.

International Service Team (IST) Places

Durham Scouts also has places to allocate for the EuroJam International Services Team (see https://ej2020.org/ist/ for details, including the IST positions catalogue listing all the available roles).

We were originally allocated 5 IST members for Durham but now there is NO LIMIT to how many adult members of Durham Scouts can attend EuroJam as IST members.

Note that all members of IST will need to be on-site in Gdansk from 24th July to 7th August 202 (15 days) and need to be endorsed by the County Commissioner. if you would like to consider attending EuroJam 2020 as a member of IST, please contact ACC (international) Dave Russell on international@durhamscouts.org.uk to put your name forward.
