Roverway 2018

Roverway 2018 is an incredible European adventure for all 16–22 year olds in Scouting. Hosted by Scouting Nederland, it will take place from 23 July to 2 August 2018 in the Netherlands.  Over 3,000 participants (aged 16 – 22) from over twenty countries will participate in Roverway. Unlike other international events, Roverway is completed in patrols of 6-8 young people. We are looking to recruit at least one patrol from Durham Scout County.

The Programme

The programme of Roverway will be split into three distinct parts:

  • a UK Contingent pre-event in the Netherlands before the Opening Ceremony on a beach in The Hague
  • a five day 'Path' where four or five patrols from different countries will join together to learn more about a certain aspect or region of the Netherlands, based on choices given before the event. These will range from more active and adventurous Paths to more cultural ones.
  • a five day Central Camp where all the patrols will come together to celebrate, meet new friends and take part in a wide range of activities.

You can read more about the programme including the preparation for Roverway on the UK Contingent webpages.

Recruitment

We are now looking for a patrol that will represent Durham Scouts at the event including a Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader, who must be over 18 at the time of the event. If you are interested in attending Roverway, please complete the application form and return it to roverway@durhamscouts.org.uk by 31 July.

FAQs

Q: What age do I need to be to go to Roverway 2018?

A: To attend as a participant, you must be born between the dates of 2nd August 1995 and 25th July 2002. If you would like to be considered as the Patrol Leader or Assistant Patrol Leader, you must be at least 18 at the time of the event.

Q: Could this count towards the Residential of my Duke of Edinburgh Gold/Queen's Scout Award?

A: Yes it can! The Path aspect of the event is a perfect opportunity for those wishing to complete their top awards.

Q: I've never done an international event before, can I still apply?

A: Yes of course! We are looking for a Patrol that will represent Durham Scout County at the event and gain the most out of the experience - this may include those who have previously attended an international event or those who have never had that opportunity!

Q: I'm thinking about applying to go to the World Scout Jamboree or another County event...

A: We understand that there may be some people eligible to apply to attend both Roverway 2018 and the World Scout Jamboree in 2019. We welcome applications from anyone considering this and would like to make it clear that your application to attend one event will in no way affect an application to attend another. If selected to attend Roverway, we would expect you to maintain this commitment even if selected for other events.

Q: I'm going to be over 22 by the time of Roverway, can I still go?

A: There will be opportunities for those aged 23+ at the time of Roverway 2018 to attend as members of the International Service Team (IST). Recruitment for the IST is being ran centrally, you can sign up to attend here.

Price

The price has been released for participants and IST members from the UK Scout Contingent. There are two options, A & B, which differ in the inclusion of return travel to the event in The Netherlands from a regional airport. If participants chose Option B, they will be expected to organise their own travel.

We expect some of this fee to be covered by active fundraising from the Patrol and would not like finance to be a barrier to participation, so please do not hesitate to get in touch in these circumstances.Screen Shot 2017-07-07 at 19.55.13
