New County Team Appointments

28 February 2017

To further improve the support available to our volunteer we are pleased to announce the following new appointments to the County Team*

  • Deputy County Commissioner (Growth and Development): Hayley Robertson

Hayley is also a Scout Leader with 1st Chopwell Scout Group in Blaydon District and brings experience of growth and development work from her former roles with GirlGuiding UK.

Hayley will assume the growth and development responsibilities of the County Commissioner role and will work closely with County Commissioner David Stokes. She will be responsible for supporting Districts to update development plans, and in helping Districts to implement their growth and development plans, working with District Growth and Development Champions, the Assistant Regional Commissioner (Growth and Development) and the Regional Support Team.

  • Assistant County Commissioner (Explorer Scouts): Scott Doughty
  • Assistant County Commissioner (Young Leaders): Iain Wood

Scott is an Explorer Scout Leader with 1st Eppleton Unit in Houghton-le-Spring District and also brings experience of working with the 14-17 year old age range within the Army Cadets.

Iain is a Scout Leader with 1st Framwellgate Moor Wednesday Troop in Durham and City District and was nominated for the role by Young Leaders in the District.

Given the increasing importance of the Young Leader scheme within Scouting, the decision to split to former ACC(ES) role has been taken to provide effective, age-specific support to the 14-17 year old age range and to help Districts to support the Young Leader scheme locally. Both Scott and Iain will work with David Stokes (retiring ACC(ES)) to ensure continuity to the section over the next 12 months.

We wish Hayley, Scott and Iain all the best in their new roles - and please don't hesitate to contact them in their new roles if you need support.

*Subject to completion of the usual appointments process
