We’re looking for passionate people with a wide variety of skills and experience to join the Moor House Management Board. Together the board will help Durham Scouts provide accessible adventurous activities and achieve it’s vision.

Remuneration: This is a voluntary role however all reasonable travel expenses will be paid

Role summary and purpose

As a member of the Moor House Management Board, you will play an active role in defining the overall strategy for Moor House Adventure Centre. You will you use your expertise (typically in a specialist area or interest) to ensure the Centre’s management and operations are conducted in the best interest of the charity and in line with the Board’s Terms of Reference.

About the Centre

Moor House Adventure Centre, located 4 miles outside of Durham City, is a 15-acre estate comprising of mixed woodland and large camping fields. It has a large modern purpose built residential centre sleeping 38 and provides a wide range of adventurous and challenging onsite and offsite activities for Durham Scouts and external customers.

Key tasks of a board member

  • Attendance at and preparation for bi-monthly board meetings.
  • Providing specialist advice to the board in your area of expertise in order to inform its decision making process.
  • Taking responsibility for implementing board decisions, working with staff and volunteers and forming subgroups with other board members where required.
  • Regular visits to Moor House Adventure Centre as required.
  • Assist the Centre staff in resolving specific operational issues.
  • Ensuring the board is fulfilling its role as described in the Terms of Reference.
  • Reviewing and approving the Centre’s proposed budget and business plan for the forthcoming financial year.
  • Approves spend, customer bids, expenses and recruitment, in line with the board’s delegated authority.
  • Ensures that the Centre complies with all relevant legislation and the Scout Association’s Policy, Organisation and Rules.
